Instructions

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and oil. Gradually mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface or use a stand mixer with a dough hook. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add a little more flour if too sticky.
  4. Proof the Dough: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape and Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 200°F (93°C).
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing and serving.
