Description

Indulge in a whimsical Cotton Candy Cake! This delightful recipe brings the fun flavor of cotton candy to a light and fluffy cake, perfect for celebrations and sweet treats. Learn how to make this colorful and delicious candy floss cake with easy step-by-step instructions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp cotton candy extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • Pink and blue food coloring

For the frosting:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp cotton candy extract
  • Pink and blue food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the cotton candy extract.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Divide the batter into two bowls and tint one bowl pink and the other blue using food coloring. Pour the batter into greased and floured cake pans.
  4. Bake and Cool: Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before inverting them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Make the Cotton Candy Frosting: While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the milk and cotton candy extract until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. Add pink and blue food coloring if desired.
  6. Assemble Your Masterpiece: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous layer of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top of the frosting, and then frost the entire cake. Decorate with cotton candy, sprinkles, or any other toppings you like.

Notes

  • Use high-quality cotton candy extract for the best flavor.
  • Don’t overmix the batter, as this can result in a tough cake.
  • Make sure the cake layers are completely cool before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Store the assembled cake in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
